More about this project

This project examines the ancient and folkloric roots of the notorious early modern European witch trials, with a view to understanding the ideas and emotions that inspired them more fully, and also the reason why the severity of witch-hunting, and the identity of the victims, varied considerably across Europe. It seeks to set them in a global, an ancient, and a medieval folkloric context.
