18 November 2015, 6.00 PM - 18 November 2015, 7.30 PM

Laurence Publicover, Tamsin Badcoe, Elsa Hammond, Holly Corfield Carr

Orangery, Goldney Hall, Lower Clifton Hill, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1BX

This event will discuss some of the work undertaken by members of the 'Perspective from the Sea' research cluster within the Faculty of Arts. We will present a series of short talks on how the experience of being 'at sea' is imagined in literature and - citing extracts from the passenger diaries and documents held in the archives at the Bristol Record Office and the ss Great Britain - how it is recorded by actual seafarers. The talks will draw upon both scholarly expertise and personal experience, discussing both the physical and the more philosophical implications of being 'at sea'.

This event will feature a specially commissioned poem by Bristol-based poet Holly Corfield Carr.

This event is part of InsideArts festival 2015.
