PhD Thesis: 'Themes of Costume and the Mask in Contemporary Black British Art'
My research is based on an investigation of the roles of costume and masking in contemporary black British art. I have taken as a chronological starting point for my project the consolidation of the Black Arts Movement in the 1980s, a still controversial grouping of artists, artist-activists and critics, ending with more recent developments in the 1990s and the early 21st century.
