The analyses of observational HIV studies are usually restricted to looking at deaths from all causes. As the life expectancy of HIV positive individuals is increasing, causes of death are changing in this population.

In order to quantify these changes, the ART-CC Causes of Death Committee has categorised causes of death within patients in ART-CC cohorts. To date, we have been able to categorise 8,580 of the 10,802 deaths recorded in ART-CC, according to the HICDEP protocol.
