Sustainable Agri-Food Systems

Sustainable Agri food Systems (SAFS) is a growing research community reflecting the School’s increasing focus on food sustainability and the future resilience of food systems. We bring together expertise across environmental, health and social sciences to explore both specific and systemic challenges in agri food systems. Our work applies interdisciplinary methods to improve circularity and to balance the environmental, economic and equity dimensions of food production and consumption.
This community is expanding rapidly within the Bristol Veterinary School and is closely connected to food system research across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the wider University and the city region. Key collaborations include the Cabot Institute for the Environment (Food Security), the Food Justice Network and the Bristol Poverty Institute.
SAFS aligns directly with the Faculty’s priority area of Healthy and Resilient Plant and Animal Systems, contributing to local and global efforts to build more sustainable, just and climate resilient food futures.
