How does this unit fit into your programme of study?
This is a core chemistry unit only available to Year 3 students studying on the Chemical Physics programmes in Bristol (BSc, MSci).
An overview of content
In Year 3, Chemistry students will study a core unit comprising content from across the subject. Several components will be appropriate and of interest to the Chemical Physics community, and these topics are brought together in this unit which will be mandatory for those studying Chemical Physics in Bristol (i.e. BSc and MSci Chemical Physics):
Study of these topics is also mandatory as part of the Distance Learning unit for students on the MSci Chemical Physics with Industrial Experience programme.
How will students, personally, be different as a result of the unit
This unit allows Chemical Physics students the opportunity to study advanced topics that are part of the Year 3 Chemistry core unit
Learning Outcomes
You will learn through a blended approach, involving a mixture of face-to-face and online teaching, asynchronous and synchronous lectures, online resources, individual student led enquiry and/or team-based student-led enquiry.

All summative coursework will be supported by closely related (same format; same topics) formative assessment. Learning support will be supported by workshops which will offer questions that will help students build the learning framework necessary to answer exam questions on the topics.
Tasks which count towards your unit mark:
The unit will be assessed by a combination of coursework (25%) and an end-of-year exam (75%). The coursework will have two components: i) a multiple choice test based on synoptic content from mandatory units across all years (15%; all ILOs); ii) an extended writing task (10%, all ILOs).

The re-assessment tasks will directly mirror those in the assessment tasks.

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. For appropriate assessments, if you have self-certificated your absence, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (for assessments at the end of TB1 and TB2 this is usually in the next re-assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any exceptional circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
