This module will involve the student attending clinical practice attachments for no less than 13 days. These will be at the approved mentoring private practice. The student will observe and, after a suitable period of time as deemed by the mentor/tutor, become involved in the assessing, treatment planning and preparation of patients for implant surgery. The student should observe implant surgery and the stages involved in the construction and placement of provisional and definitive prostheses. In due course it is expected that each student will prepare and treatment plan appropriate cases. The student will be expected to carry out the implant placement and where possible final restoration for at least one patient under the supervision of their mentor. The mentor will assess the competency of the student against agreed criteria. The student must submit a portfolio of the clinical practice attachment and written clinical case reports.
Lectures and small group teaching on study day 1 and 2. One to one teaching and observation of clinical practice.
