Pre-requisites

120 credit points at Level I/5 by June of the year in which they progress to a university in Europe. In order to progress in a degree programme with Study in Continental Europe (and thus spend year three abroad), a candidate is required to

(a) demonstrate an adequate attainment in the appropriate language (normally obtaining an assessment mark of at least 50 in the LSP language units); (b) demonstrate an adequate attainment in the major subject or subjects (normally obtaining assessment marks of at least 50 in the Level C/3 and 60 overall in Level I/5 science and maths units).

Description including Unit Aims

A year spent studying in an approved university in Continental Europe with a physics content sufficient to allow the possibility of progression into year 4 of an MSci programme.

20 credit points of work are Open Units chosen at the discretion of the student; the remaining 100 credit points are chosen with the agreement of the School of Physics.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Have a knowledge and understanding of the core physics material from the level 6 MSci physics course at Bristol and be able to solve problems at this level in both English and in the language of their host university.

Have a knowledge and understanding of further optional physics (or related) units as taught by the partner university and will be able to solve problems related to these courses.

Students will be able to cope with the challenges of living and studying in a foreign country.

Assessment Information

Formative Assessment:

Formative assessment is predominantly carried out by the partner university. The students report on their progress to Bristol and receive feedback. Students also receive formative feedback on the report and the interview.

Summative Assessment:

The summative assessment and final mark is comprised of:

  • Assessments by the partner university
  • A written report
  • An interview.
