Students will spend 42 weeks in total within two types of clinical setting, the Veterinary Hospital at Langford, during which they will undertake their "clinical rotations" and a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) approved Training Practice.
During Clinical Rotations students will rotate through key clinical areas relevant to their degree pathway.
During this unit students are required to complete a record of their clinical competence in the form of the RCVS Nursing Progress Log (NPL) This log is subject to verification by university staff at intervals throughout the 3rd year of the programme.
Students will be required to attend 2 study weeks and a series of study days throughout the academic year.
Aims:
Practicals Online synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning Small group working Use of Virtual learning environment (Blackboard)
Students must pass the following assessments:
Critical review of Journal Articles (50% unit weighting)
Case report (50% unit weighting)
Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) (Must Pass)
All units must be passed in order to progress to the next year of study. There will be an opportunity to resit OSCE examinations during the resit period.
Please note that practical and technical skills will also be assessed via the RCVS Nursing Progress Log.
By the end of year 3, students are expected to have completed their clinical placement hours in addition to the completion of their NPL.
If this unit has a Resource List, you will normally find a link to it in the Blackboard area for the unit. Sometimes there will be a separate link for each weekly topic.
If you are unable to access a list through Blackboard, you can also find it via the Resource Lists homepage. Search for the list by the unit name or code (e.g. VETS20022).
How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.
See the Faculty workload statement relating to this unit for more information.
Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an
assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
