Description including Unit Aims

The year 4 external SSC is a three week period when the student can self select a topic or specific experience. This is agreed in advance and a supervisor selected. The student attends during the recognised time and writes and submits a structured report. This facilitates students time to plan and learn independently.

Intended Learning Outcomes

The following Intended Leaning Outcomes are generic for all Student Selected Component units:

  • develop an idea for a project that will stretch you, yet be achievable within the four-week SSC period.
  • plan your time effectively and meet the SSC deadlines.
  • find, process and interpret original data.
  • reach and justify your own conclusions.
  • work independently, under the guidance of your supervisor.
  • understand and conform to ethical and legal guidelines, and conduct your work and yourself in a professional manner throughout.
  • produce a well-written report of a set length.
  • understand the limitations of your own work.
