This unit forms part of the taught component of the EngD programme in Composites Manufacture. A tour of at least three different composites manufacturing companies will demonstrate the range of technical and business approaches utilised in the industry sector. The unit will be assessed by a written, critically constructive evaluation of the advantages and limitations of individual practices, both from technical and business aspects.

Demonstrate their appreciation of the application of competitive strategies across a range of different composites manufacturing environments.
The learning outcomes align to A1, B1, B2 and D1 of the UK-SPEC
Fieldwork in the form of guided and commented visits to 3 companies, covering different sectors of the composites manufacturing industry
Written assignment (85%)
20 minute assessed presentation (15%)1
Note 1: The marks awarded for the 20 minute presentation (15 minute presentation and 5 minutes for technical questions) will be equally distributed between academic and peer review assessment. This method of assessment was designed with the size of the cohort in mind (10 students) and provides them with an excellent opportunity to develop and build on their transferable skills.
