This Unit of Teaching will be offered as an Optional Unit as part of a modular distance learning programme. The programme will allow students to build Certificate and Diploma or Masters level qualifications by combining optional 20 credit units.
The Surgical Skills 2 Unit is a single element which builds on the previous surgical unit with the following general aims: -
To provide the students with the knowledge and clinical foundations to assess and, where appropriate, undertake the management of more challenging surgical cases such as the management of wisdom teeth, teeth with antral involvement, and medically compromised patients.

Teaching will use a blended learning approach delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Students will be expected to engage with all learning.
A range of teaching are used in the unit including:
This Unit will have two summative assessments: 1. Written coursework assessment of 2,000 words (50%) 2. Final written (multiple short answer and MCQ) examination of 2 hour's duration (50%) All assessments must be passed ≥ 50% and there is no compensation between the individual assessments. Formative assessment will include: * Service development project.* Development of practice protocols.* Feedback on practical exercises. Feedback will be provided at the study days as small group tutorials and individual performance.
