The unit aims to help students to gain skills relevant to further study at university level
Through this unit students will (i) have had the opportunity to take part in workshops where they may improve their work as fiction writers and as critical readers. Through writing exercises and practical advice, students (ii) will have been offered help in such areas as: developing characters and plots, improving style and working with structure.
Seminars
Students will be assessed in two areas: formatively, on their participation in workshops, both in giving feedback on the work of other students and receiving and responding to feedback on their own fiction (i); and summatively, through the submission of one piece of work (2000 to 3500 words) in which they will be expected to demonstrate what they have learnt about areas such as developing characters and plots, improving style and working with structure (ii).
