Leadership and Culture
The Leadership and Culture workstream is about how we support, empower and lead by example to enact climate action.
We will...
Embed climate action in governance and decision-making
Embedding climate action into governance and decision-making will mean that sustainability is part of every major decision at the University.
Senior leadership will set a clear direction and sustainability responsibility will be embedded at all levels of the organisation. This will include Sustainability Impact Assessments as part of committee papers, including carbon targets in Faculty and Divisional KPIs and updating business case templates to consider climate impacts.
To support change, we will introduce a Revolving Green Fund that will help pay for additional climate projects.
Over time, this will make the University more resilient and attract partners and students who share our values. By putting sustainability at the heart of decision-making, we commit to smarter choices that support our long-term climate, research, teaching and civic goals.
Create lasting culture change
Creating lasting culture change means weaving sustainability into everyday life at the University, not treating it as an optional extra.
Climate awareness and action will be introduced through staff training and in student welcome activities, so expectations are clear from day one. Where appropriate, we will embed climate action in relevant job descriptions and in the annual review process, making it a core responsibility for key roles.
Senior leaders will show commitment, supported by clear policies and processes, so sustainability is part of how we work, learn, and lead.
Over time, this approach will build a shared culture where everyone plays their part in cutting emissions and building a more sustainable future for all.
