Entry requirements

Qualifications

A clinical doctorate (DClin) plus an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in psychology or similar. You must also be registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council.

English language requirements

For applicants whose first language is not English, it is necessary to achieve a minimum score in an approved English language test specified in 'Profile E' of the University's English Language Requirements Policy.

Other

Previous professional experience or qualifications can also be put forward for consideration as equivalent to the academic entry requirements given above.  These will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Selection process

Applications are considered by the Programme Coordinator and an internal Committee that may involve several members of staff.

Candidates may be invited for interview and to visit the School and meet the Supervisor/s.

Decisions are generally made on the basis of all the available information, including the written application and references and the performance at interview, if candidates are interviewed.  Performance in the first degree is generally the most important criterion, along with referees’ statements regarding the individual’s potential to do well and develop as a scientist.

It is generally possible for candidates to defer entry. However this may be restricted for certain types of funding. The candidate needs to be aware of their funders’ regulations in this regard.

Offers

Applicants will receive a decision within 21 days of submitting a complete application.  Applicants will be advised by email if their application is considered to be incomplete and will be asked to provide any missing information or documentation. If an offer is made the applicant has 40 days to indicate that they wish to accept or decline the offer (unless otherwise stated in the offer letter), after which time the offer will expire.

Offers and acceptances can be conditional, i.e. subject to the candidate meeting all the conditions set out in the offer letter prior to registration.

International self-funding students are required to pay a £1,000 deposit.  Further information will be provided in your offer document, and payment can be made online on the programme deposits payment website.
