Simeng Jia

Hi, I’m Simeng,

I came to University of Bristol and did my MSc in 2012. Now I am a first-year student of PhD Electronic ansimend Electrical Engineering.

I was majored in the specialty of Optical Communications and Signal Processing during MSc. It provided me to have the opportunity to be exposed to a full range of communication systems, devices and signal processing courses.

Outstanding teaching methods make more effective feedback between teacher and student; advanced theories and technologies reinforced and solidified my intense interest in the area. Thus, I choose to continue my study to do the research on photonic crystal (gallium nitride) in Photonics Research Group.

The good study environment and advanced laboratory equipment make me work well.

Bristol is a dynamic city which has a long history and there is always something going on, whatever your interests are.

Moreover, Bristol is one of the most popular and successful universities in the UK and was ranked within the top 50 universities in the world in the QS World University rankings 2016.

The student union offers help all students have the best possible time while they are at Bristol, which includes more than 250 sports and societies covering a wide range of interests, also provide volunteering and sustainability programmes and many other initiatives.

I lived in University’s accommodation during my MSc course. There provide well-equipped facilities, and also can help you know more friends when you are new.

I am interested in travelling; it can expand my vision and enriches my experience. And I also enjoy meeting new friends and learning about the cultural differences.
