MA Translation Scholarship

The MA Translation Scholarship provides a partial fee waiver for two incoming MAT students.

We are keen to enable talented linguists to study for a career in the dynamic language industry.

This scholarship provides a partial fee waiver worth £5,000 for each student.

Eligibility

All applicants to the MA Translation are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

We can only award this scholarship to applicants with a confirmed place on the programme by the date we announce the outcome of scholarship applications.

How to apply

Apply via the MA Translation scholarship application form.

To apply for the scholarship, you must provide an extended personal statement that answers the question in the application form. This personal statement can be up to 8,000 characters long.

Deadline

Applications close on Saturday 1 June 2024 at 12 midday (UK time).

Assessment process

Applications will be assessed by a panel. This panel includes the MA Translation Programme Director, the Head of Subject for Translation, and one other member of the academic team in Translation.

The decision will be based on evidence of the applicant's:

  • motivation, commitment, and plans for a career in translation
  • understanding of the structure and content of the MA Translation
  • understanding of translation and language industry trends.

The panel's decision is final with no appeal process.

Successful applicants

We will make offers of a scholarship to successful applicants within 20 working days of the deadline. Full details of the offer will be available in the award notification.

Awardees must reply to the scholarship offer notification via email and confirm acceptance of the award and the relevant terms and conditions within two weeks.

Reserve applicants

To ensure all available funding is distributed, the panel will select several applicants for a reserve list.

Applicants will be notified if they are selected for the reserve list and may be offered an award at a later date. However, being placed on the reserve list is not a guarantee of an award.
