We offer academic, financial and social support for students from lower socioeconomic groups.

Students from a lower socioeconomic group
You may self-identify as coming from a lower socioeconomic group because you:
- live in an Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) quintile 1 area
- have been eligible for free school meals
- are eligible for the University of Bristol Bursary.

Our Explore community
Our Explore community can help you make the most of the support available. It runs events and activities for students from lower socioeconomic groups throughout the year, so you can:
- meet other students and share experiences
- understand what support is available
- settle in and make the most out of your time here.

Events with Explore
Pre-arrival events
Pre-arrival webinar, 4 September, 4 to 5 pm
Find out about part-time work, managing your money and student societies.
Building up to Bristol (online), 9 to 11 September, 1:30 pm to 4 pm
A three-part programme to help you develop your academic skills and knowledge, and prepare for your studies.
Visit Explore at Destination Bristol
Destination Bristol (an event for new students) is on 15 and 16 September, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at Senate House.
At Destination Bristol you can:
- join us at the Explore stall (lower ground floor) and meet a member of our State School Society, The 93 Percent club.
- visit room 1.23 Physics Building, 1 to 2 pm both days, to chat to 1st Generation Networks (the first in their family to attend university).
You do not need to book these events.

Get support
Our specialised support teams are here to help you throughout your time at university.
Financial support
If you're experiencing financial hardship, our University hardship funds may be able to help.
You may also be eligible for our scholarships, awards and bursaries.
Academic support
You will have support throughout your course from someone in your department, such as a personal tutor.
Student-led study sessions and study support such as resources, workshops and drop-ins are also available.
Peer support
If you are starting in September, you can request a peer mentor to help you in the first term.
