Management development for Professional Services
We want to ensure that all staff taking on supervisory or people management responsibilities at UoB feel equipped and confident to do so. The following training opportunities will help new Professional Services managers to develop the skills they need to manage their staff and teams effectively.

The UoB Manager Induction programme
This 'build your own' development programme provides new managers with vital skills training, input from key UoB divisions and networking opportunities in the early days of their new role. Includes one mandatory induction module for new line managers plus other flexible modules. -

Staff Development offer a host of other workshops and programmes on management and leadership for Professional Services staff at all stages of their career.
Management development for Academic staff
Academics with people management responsibilities are required to undertake some specialist management training sessions to help them get to grips with the demands of their role.

Staff Review and Development
This half-day session is mandatory for academics who line manage other staff and conduct their annual reviews. It supports the reviewer in conducting annual SR&D conversations, ensures that reviewers adopt a consistent approach to the process, and refreshes/enhances reviewers skills and confidence in conducting effective review conversations.

Successful Recruitment & Selection
This practical half-day session for mandatory for any manager involved in recruiting staff. It gives a clear insight into how to put together effective selection criteria, successful interview and selection techniques, as well as focusing on what diversity means and the legal framework that underpins it.

Strategies for Managing Performance
This one-day training session, delivered by HR, is for any manager who is required to manage the performance of others. Learn how to create conditions for best performance, examine frameworks and best practice for use in real-life situations, and discover practical tools for managing high performers and poor performers.

Leadership programmes
Academic Staff Development run in-house leadership programmes which are focused on exploring what is required to be an effective leader within academia. This includes both discovering what leadership means within your context as well as the more practical people and project management aspects of leadership.
