Leadership development programmes 2020-2021

Leaders play a pivotal role in influencing the environment and the dynamics that individuals and teams work within. Now more than ever, we need leaders to be compassionate, strive to understand the challenges of their teams, and respond in ways that promote inclusion.

What's new?

This year, we have pivoted the leadership development programmes to a blended learning model with all sessions being facilitated online. As well as being of a high quality, they will be cost effective and time efficient.

What the new leadership development offer wants to enable

Integral to sustaining leadership is structured support, a safe place to share learning with peers and an opportunity to consider new ways and approaches.

Leadership development programmes

The three leadership programmes will focus on different aspects of leadership and will be open to all Academic and Professional Service staff. They will run alongside each other and share three plenary sessions which will cover leadership topics that are key to everyone and will be led by an external speaker.

Programme structure

The main elements of the programmes will be:

  • 3 plenary sessions
  • 3 specific cohort sessions
  • 3 Action Learning Sets

Applications for the 2020-21 programmes have now closed.

Elevate Programme

Bristol is leading on the pilot of an inclusive leadership and development programme for our Black, Asian and minority ethnic women. It will have a cohort of up to 30 participants from across the GW4 universities starting in January 2021.

Applications will be open from 2nd November - 20th November.
More information is available on the Elevate webpage

Thanks for delivering such a comprehensive programme with a great variety of topics and speakers, especially with the change of format!

Exploring Leadership participant 2019-20

Senior Leaders offered time and space to think about and develop leadership skills, decision-making and career development in a supportive and collegiate environment. Almost as valuable was the network of colleagues the course offered, many of whom I would not have met through my role but who shared similar experiences and expectations. COVID19 presented huge challenges, and the continuing online space of Senior Leaders was a helpful, important space in navigating these waters and reflecting on how best to deal with the unprecedented world we found ourselves in.
