Aurora is a leadership development programme for those who identify as women. Run by Advance HE and in partnership with universities, the programme is aimed at enabling more women to develop the leadership side of their careers and so address the underrepresentation of women at senior levels in the sector. The programme is based around large conference-style events, mentoring and self-directed learning.
University of Bristol’s participation
As part of the University’s commitment to addressing the gender imbalance in senior roles, particularly within academic schools, the University will be encouraging female staff to participate in Aurora in 2019/20. Full details about the programme structure and content can be found on the Advance HE website.
If you are a potential candidate interested in attending the Aurora 2019-20 programme, please first take a look at our internally-run Female Leadership Initiative (FLi) programme, which might be more suitable for your development needs. You can use our table to compare the two programmes and to help make your decision.
You will need the support of your line manager before submitting an Expression of Interest. There will be limited places available on the programme, and your Dean/Faculty Manager/Divisional Head will be involved in selecting who will participate from the pool of interested candidates.
Participation in the programme consists of attendance at 4 workshops and 2 action learning set days. In addition, participants will be required to identify and meet with a senior mentor at Bristol. The dates of the workshops can be seen below and by applying, you are committing to attend all of these. Please note that you can choose to attend a mix of locations to suit your availability, but your Action Learning Set days must be in the same location as your Power and Politics day.
You must also be available to attend an Aurora briefing session in Bristol (date TBC) with Professor Judith Squires, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost and University of Bristol Aurora Champion.
