Our tailored development workshops and programmes encourage leaders and managers to approach leadership with their own authentic style. Our flagship leadership programmes include Bristol Senior Leaders, Leading Collaborative Teams, the Female Leadership initiative, and Elevate.

Developing your career

Bristol Clear programme for Research Staff
Bristol Clear offers a variety of initiatives to support our academic staff on the research pathway, in line with our commitment to the researcher Concordat. This includes supporting Early Career Researchers, and contributing to the continuous enhancement and improvement of the research environment.
Research in practice
Research in practice is an integrated development programme which will practically support teams in the way that they do research. It offers a combination of focused information sessions and more in-depth development workshops and is aimed at all staff working on a research project, including academic staff currently holding, or planning to apply for research funding.
Academic Career Development Programme (ACDP)
The Programme aims to create an academic career path at the University of Bristol that is challenging, rewarding and inclusive, and which enables all academic staff to have the opportunity to reach their full potential. It is governed by a Programme Board, including representatives from all levels and across the University, and encompasses three core priority areas: Learning and Development, Behaviours and Practices, and Reward and Recognition.
Academic Writing Programme
A free programme that combines regular training with a practical commitment to practise structured writing time and develop writing habits. The programme runs yearly over the course of 3 months and is open to all academics who are establishing themselves as academic writers.
We offer mentoring schemes as an integral element of many of our development programmes, including Bristol Clear, and our flagship leadership programmes. The Bristol Women’s Mentoring Network was launched in February 2019 as part of the University's commitment to eradicate the gender pay gap and to create gender equality in our workplace.
In addition to our extended development programmes we offer masterclasses, supporting the development of research impact, and industry collaboration.
The University has its own unique internal coaching service, offering one-to-one development support for staff. We offer: leadership coaching for those in specific senior roles, career coaching for pathway two research staff, and maternity and paternity coaching.
