  • identify locations visited by UK adolescents that are associated with different profiles of physical activity
  • determine what attracts adolescents to these types of locations and what features of the physical and social environment influence their reasons for visiting
  • development of new measures of the physical and social environment related to physical activity
  • describe aspects of the real or perceived environment associated with activity levels
  • to determine whether these factors differ by weight status, gender, ethnicity, social position
  • to determine whether these factors differ in urban environments compared with non-urban
  • to determine whether these factors change over time between primary school and secondary school
  • to identify targets for development of effective interventions
  • to inform and influence policy.
