Virtual 10k in May
We're inviting everyone to run a University of Bristol virtual 10k in the month of May which will be will be free to take part in. Everyone who had signed up for the Great Bristol 10k who wants to take part in this virtual event will receive a free #WeAreBristol performance tee and a Great Bristol 10k run finishers medal. We will coordinate collection from the Indoor Sports Centre and via our Alumni office, once our University facilities re-open.
Those that hadn't signed up but have now wish they had or have suddenly found themselves running more recently and would like to challenge themselves to do a virtual 10k in the month of May can also join in. You can even purchase a runners t-shirt
to collect once our facilities reopen at the discounted price of £6.
Whether you do it in the park, in the garden, up and down the stairs, on the spot in your kitchen or around own personal athletics track; it doesn’t matter! What matters is that we stay active, together, as a community. Supporting ourselves, and each other, for our collective physical and mental well-being.
This is free for all entrants to take part in and you'll still get your refund as per the refund terms and conditions.
- For the 526 entrants who had redeemed their GB10k entry token; you will incur the Great Run Company £5 admin fee
- For the near 300 entrants who had not redeemed their GB10k entry token; you will receive a full refund
(NB - 'Tokens' were the code sent via email from the Great Run Company to our runners directly. This code was used to officially claim your place in the race by inputting it into the race organisers website. If you did this, you will incur the £5 admin fee. If you did not, you will not incur this fee.)
Make a donation
We understand that these are uncertain times for all of us so there is absolutely no obligation to turn all or part of your refund into a donation, but many of our runners who were intending on fundraising for a charity by taking part in the 10k asked us to make this an option on the form. You can choose to give to the Healthy Minds programme (which is still continuing to support participants online) or the NHS charities
Our virtual 10k runners can still go the extra mile and combine their training with fundraising for the University of Bristol’s Healthy Minds programme. Support your own mental and physical wellbeing whilst raising funds to support the wellbeing of our students.
Physical activity has been proven to boost mood and reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, and this idea is at the heart of Healthy Minds: it utilises the proven benefits of exercise to support Bristol students affected by mental health difficulties.
When you sign up to be one of our 10k fundraisers, you’ll gain access to an online community and receive regular fundraising tips and support from our 10k team. It’s easy to find out more and get started – just go to our campaign page on JustGiving and click ‘start fundraising’. Thank you for supporting student mental health!
Join our new University of Bristol Sport club on Strava where you can log your runs, compare your training, view recent accomplishments, and chat with club members.
