From Local Action to National Impact - Harnessing Local Insights for National Gambling Policy Reform
Great Britain has emerged as a global leader in deregulating gambling advertising, resulting in an unprecedented surge in marketing activities. Many European countries have implemented stringent restrictions recently, making GB increasingly an outlier with very lax marketing regulation. Despite the passive stance of the central government, various local authorities and grassroots initiatives have taken proactive measures to address the pervasive issue. Indeed, almost 80% of local authorities in England introduced gambling marketing restrictions. Accordingly, this project aims to engage with multiple localised stakeholders, to understand which kind of restrictions/initiatives they implemented and to identify main drivers that have led to those initiates, and how they have done so, to ultimately help inform central government policies.
