Exploring the impact of viewing gambling on livestream platforms on the attitudes, behaviours, and engagement in young adults and adolescents towards gambling

The "Live-Gam" project investigates how watching gambling on livestreams affects young adults and adolescents’ attitudes and behaviours towards gambling. Livestreaming platforms, like Twitch, offer diverse content, such as videogame-play, cultural/sports events, and personal in-real-life video-blogs/vlogs. Some platforms show gambling livestreams, such as live slots or poker, which can be accessed by underage viewers. This is concerning given the growing popularity of watching livestreams amongst young adults and adolescents. The project will use an anonymous survey and confidential interviews to explore the link between watching livestreams, exposure to gambling content, and actual gambling behaviour in young adults (18-24) and adolescents (13-16).

The project lead is Dr Glen Dighton (School of Psychology) at Swansea University.
