In a Westminster Hall debate on gambling harms affecting children, Alex Ballinger MP cited our Premier League research, stating: “The University of Bristol found that in just the opening weekend of the Premier League alone, there were 27,000 gambling adverts.” Munira Wilson MP also referenced our recent findings on how children perceive gambling marketing. Tristan Osborne MP drew on our comparative analysis of European gambling marketing regulation, noting that countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium have stronger advertising restrictions than the UK.
In a separate debate in the Commons Chamber, Shockat Adam MP raised our analysis with the Secretary of State, highlighting that “Last October, Man City v Wolves had over 5,000 visible gambling ads during the game.”
