Binding options

The different options available for binding your printing.

Hard binding

University specification for dissertations: 

  • hard, black binding
  • gold foil text on the front cover and spine
  • maximum spine width 36 mm.

Up to 300 sheets. Minimum 90 sheets to allow for spine printing.

Soft binding

Heat sealed adhesive strip, pages inserted and glued in.

University of Bristol-red spine, and acetate front and back.

Up to 340 sheets. Minimum 25 sheets.

Comb binding

Holes punched down the spine and a black plastic spiral comb. With acetate front and plain card back.

Available for up to 300 sheets. Minimum 10 sheets.

Wire binding

Holes punched down the spine and a black metal wire. With acetate front and plain card back.

Available for up to 250 sheets. Minimum 10 sheets.

Stapled (saddle-stitch)

Sheets are collated, folded in half and stapled through the fold.

Available for up to 64 pages, in divisions of 4.

Used for booklets.

Stapled (square-back)

Similar to saddle-stitch binding but with a wrap-around cover resulting in a flat spine.

Available for up to 80 pages, in divisions of 4.

Used for booklets.

Paperback (perfect binding)

Paperback-style book. Pages are glued on the spine with a printed cover wrapped around. Suitable for larger page counts.

Available for up to 300 sheets. Minimum 30 sheets.
