The Post Room is run by a small team: 

Aid Ball and Paul Topley complete the daily deliveries for Print Services and deliver and collect the internal and external mail across the University PrecinctScott Giles sorts the internal post at the Post Room and completes the franking of post. Emma Valoo  supervises the team.  

Lost Property

Internal Post 

Internal post must be clearly marked with the recipient’s name and address (within the University precinct).  
We aim to get internal post to its destination within 2 days. 
We do not deliver to the following locations, which will be included in external post:  
  • Temple Quarter 
  • UWE 
  • National Composites Centre 

If you move your work location or change your role it is your responsibility to change your details in the contact directory and ensure Estates Assistants and colleagues are aware of where to redirect your mail.

External Post

The Post Room is used for franking of all post unless your department/school expects to process in excess of £10,000 franked post per annum. Procurement must authorise any procurement of franking machines. 

The Post Room can send letters and parcels (under 10kg), locally and internationally.  Please give us a call if you have any questions about the different postal systems.   

External post (can be sent via the internal mail system) must be received by 2:00pm at the Post Room, 1-9 Old Park Hill to enable the processing prior to collection from 3:00pm.  Please ensure it is marked with the following (post can be securely bundled with note attached): 

Personal post must not be sent via this process.   

Tracked Royal Mail Service

If you require items to be tracked via Royal Mail, please speak to a member of the Post Team. If you have your own Royal Mail tracked books please bring them with you to the Post room along with your mail.

Unfortunately, we cannot send parcels over 10kg.  Further details of the couriers the University uses can be found on the Procurement Office pages.  

Large Postal Deliveries

If you have a large postal delivery (in excess of 50 letters or 4 boxes), please email confirming date and location of pick up, volume of post and the postal service required.

Royal Mail Postal Rates

For details on current letter and parcel rates, please see visit the Royal Mail postal rates page. This is the Royal Mail pricing system that takes into account both the weight and the size of the item you are posting. When sending mail, you need to ensure that it is sent in an appropriate size envelope. The cost of sending an incorrect envelope size can be as much as £1 per item.

Toner Recycling 

Please send any used toners cartridges (must be in a clear bag with no other packaging) that need to be recycled to the Post Room.  Canon toners are recycled for free.  All other toners attract a small charge which is paid for centrally.
