OPEN (Out of Hours Prescribing: Enhancing CommunicatioN) is a research study exploring and improving communication between health practitioners and patients in Out-of-Hours consultations about common infections.

OPEN (Out of Hours Prescribing: Enhancing CommunicatioN)

Out of Hours services are where patients access primary healthcare outside of normal working hours on week days, or any time on weekends. We don’t know much about what happens during Out of Hours consultations because previous research has generally focussed on primary care consultations during normal working hours. The aim of this study is to explore how healthcare practitioners, patients and people who accompany patients discuss the management of common infections during Out-of-Hours consultations. These consultations could be over the phone, in a Primary Care Centre, or in patients’ homes.
