Research interests
I’m currently a Senior Research Associate in the Paleo Modelling Group at the University of Bristol, using Earth system models to investigate climate and biogeochemical processes through deep time. My current research focuses on wetland methane emissions and their implications for atmospheric methane concentrations and climate across contrasting past climate states. I also completed my Ph.D. in the same group, where I investigated the multi-million-year evolution of the dust cycle and the role of dust-borne iron in shaping marine productivity and ocean biogeochemistry.
My broader research interests centre on understanding the mechanisms driving Earth’s past climate change and the interactions between climate, terrestrial ecosystems and the ocean. I have a background in geology, with experience reconstructing past environments from marine and terrestrial sediments using sedimentological, isotopic and environmental magnetic methods. I now primarily use modelling approaches, working with HadCM3, cGENIE, and vegetation and wetland methane models. I also developed DUSTY, a model for simulating past dust emissions. My programming skills include R, NCL, Python and Fortran.
