Biography
Over time, my work has centered on exploring the barriers and facilitators to STI testing among these communities. I have used behavior change models, such as the COM-B framework, to systematically analyze the factors that influence health-seeking behaviors. My NIHR doctoral fellowship research aims to not only highlight these barriers—such as stigma, discrimination, and socioeconomic challenges—but also to identify practical, culturally sensitive solutions that can improve healthcare access and uptake.
Through community-based participatory research/co-production, I strive to ensure that my work is grounded in the lived experiences of those most affected. By engaging communities directly and co-developing interventions, I aim to create sustainable and equitable health solutions that address persistent sexual health disparities. My goal is to contribute to a future where all individuals, regardless of their racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic background, can access the sexual health services they need to thrive.
Research interests
My research focuses on the intersection of public health, sexual health disparities, and healthcare access in marginalized communities. Specifically, I am interested in increasing STI testing rates among African and Caribbean populations in the UK. Using behavior change models like SeCOM-B and the ACE framework, I explore how social, cultural, and structural factors influence health-seeking behaviors in these communities.
