Research interests
I am interested in research that aims to improve both health and healthcare. My research to date has focused on addressing areas of diagnostic uncertainty using new diagnostic tools to improve patient outcomes. My expertise is in quantitative research and I am now involved in running clinical trials funded by the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit programme in musculoskeletal research.
Biography
I obtained a first-class honours BSc in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of the West of England in 2005 and then went on to complete a PhD in Breath analysis for the early recognition of hepatic encephalopathy at the same university. I have spent much of my early research career in analytical chemistry, studying volatile metabolites from the human body to see if they can act as markers of disease for non-invasive disease diagnostics. I continued to work in this field while working as a research associate at the University of Liverpool and Imperial College London. I then made a transition into applied healthcare research when I joined the University of Bristol in October 2018 as a Senior Research Associate in Primary Care.
