I completed a degree in Probably and Statistics at the University of Sheffield followed by an MSc in Biometry (focusing on medical statistics) at the University of Reading.  After working for a short time at the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit in Southampton, I registered for a part time PhD in Epidemiology there, which I completed while also working on research projects based in India.
I moved to Bristol in 2003, firstly working as a research fellow on the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, then obtaining a lectureship at the Bristol Dental School in 2007.  Since then I have worked on a variety of oral health projects and was part of the NIHR-funded Nutrition Biomedical Research Unit and Nutrition Theme of the Biomedical Research Centre.  I design and lead research methods courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and I am head of staff support and development within the School. 
I have been on the steering group for the NIHR Statistics Group since 2016, and set up the career development section.  I have recently established the UK Dental Statistics Teachers' Group, with the aim of improving statistics teaching for dental undergraduate students across the country.
