Biography
Research interests
I'm an applied health researcher and behavioural scientist. My research interests lie in health communication and behaviours, and experience of health care services. I have used both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate a range of topics in public health, primary and secondary care, and I enjoy working with a variety of stakeholders in the public, private and third sectors. I am experienced in developing behaviour change interventions, designing and conducting evaluations of health interventions and services, and conducting systematic evidence reviews.
A key area of my current research focuses on understanding the experiences of people with neurodegenerative disorders, and improving the support and services for families affected by these conditions. I am leading a NIHR-funded project to develop resources that will support people with Parkinson's, their carers and clinicians to talk about prognosis. Other projects include co-designing digital interventions to improve the delivery of domiciliary care for people with dementia, and investigating ways to address loneliness among carers of people with neurodegenerative disorders.
Another area of my research is health communication and stigma. Working with colleagues in Bath, we have developed guidance for parents on how to discuss weight with their children, which is now circulated by local authority public health teams. With colleagues in Bristol, we are now working on developing similar guidance for schools.
Alongside my research, I enjoy teaching and mentoring. I'm a co-chair of the research staff rep committee in the University of Bristol and am keen to support the conditions that promote a positive research culture.
