I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge in 2017, specialising in Zoology, before completing teacher training at Sheffield Hallam University and becoming a secondary school science teacher from 2017 to 2021. I then completed the MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation at the University of Bristol in 2022, with a research project investigating the population viability of a critically endangered subspecies in Cameroon, the Kordofan giraffe. Before beginning my PhD in 2023, I spent a year working on various research projects, including investigating pain during the disbudding of calves, and investigating techniques to remotely detect heart rates of dogs through video recordings during electrocardiogram (ECG). As a PhD student in my final year, I have developed a particular interest in the implementation of AI and computer vision techniques to answer animal welfare and wildlife conservation questions.

My PhD research to date has explored the possible risks to wild avian scavengers (such as condors, vultures and caracaras) from veterinary pharmaceutical drugs, particularly NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) used in cattle and other livestock, in South America. My research has taken me to Argentina, where I have conducted questionnaires and interviews of both veterinarians and livestock owners, as well as using Raspberry Pi cameras and computer vision techniques to remotely record and automatically ID scavenging animals feeding at livestock carcasses. I have also implemented an array of other methodologies to investigate this risk, including species distribution modelling, genomics, Monte Carlo simulation modelling and pharmacokinetic approaches.
