The Triple E Awards promote and celebrate university entrepreneurship and engagement around the world. Bristol’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was recognised as Runner-up in the Global Entrepreneurship Course of the Year, with Purdue University in the US claiming first place.
Dr Ben Hobbs, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneur, who was in Prague to collect the award, said: “We are delighted to have our course recognised in this way. This award is a testament to the hard work and creativity of our students, the expertise of our academic team, and our commitment to a human-centred, practice-based approach.
“The standard of all the universities and people recognised this year was truly exceptional. It was a privilege to be part of such an inspiring community, and we are excited to build on the friendships and collaborations made — tackling challenges and driving innovation for the future.”
The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has been developed to equip the next generation of entrepreneurs with the skills, mindset, and experience to turn challenges into opportunities and tackle complex problems.
Dr Hobbs added: “Our aim is to prepare students not only to create startups, but also to be ‘innovators’ inside existing organisations, to apply innovation skills in public and social sectors, to understand design thinking, to collaborate across disciplines. It’s about turning challenge into opportunity.”
Teaching at the Centre emphasises challenge-based, collaborative learning which allows students to draw upon their subject specialism while working in multidisciplinary teams to deliver new and innovative solutions to a given real-world challenge.
Throughout the programme students work in collaboration with a wide range of industry partners who set live challenges, providing students with the opportunity to gain experience and build a project portfolio. During their study, students have access to a network of entrepreneurs, investors and incubators.
This latest award adds to the Centre’s growing list of accolades, earlier this year it was recognised as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, praising its high quality in enterprise education, and awarded the “Authentic Assessment for Employability Award” by AGCAS.
