A revised illustrative masterplan has been submitted to Bristol City Council for the University of Bristol’s new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, planned for derelict land close to Brunel’s Temple Meads station.

The new plan, produced in response to feedback from Bristol City Council and other partners, shows changes to the layout of the buildings on the campus to allow for easier navigation through the site and more open and welcoming spaces for staff, students and local communities to enjoy.

Three buildings, rather than four, are now shown on the former sorting office site with a high-quality space at the heart of the campus, a central place to meet and relax.

To the west of the site, a new flexible space will allow for the future development of a new station access, providing an entrance to the campus from this proposed pedestrian link. Pedestrian, cycle and transport links have also been re-aligned to work with the new layout.

Improved connections with the waterside mean that cafés and other facilities can be nearer to the waterfront, creating vibrant and welcoming public spaces while adjustments to the layout of the residential buildings on Arena Island will bring better connections to the rest of the Arena Island site.

Patrick Finch, Bursar and Director of Estates for the University of Bristol, said: "We have responded to feedback on our initial masterplan and have made some changes to the layout to make our public spaces even more welcoming and accessible and to allow for an improved future connection to Temple Meads station.

"Our illustrative masterplan however is not set in stone and will evolve during the design process as we work to create a new campus that is connected to the city and part of a vibrant new city quarter.

"As the designs develop there will be many more opportunities for our partners and neighbours to engage with us and comment on our plans."

The illustrative masterplan forms part of the University's Outline Planning Application for the campus that is due to be considered by the Council shortly. Details of the planning application can be found on Bristol City Council's planning portal (REF: 17/06459/P).

The Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus will be at the forefront of digital and business research, generating new thinking about the future of cities and developing solutions to real-world global challenges. It will offer new opportunities for the University to connect with the city, create jobs and celebrate Bristol culture.
