Press release issued: 6 May 2016

This May, the Bristol New Music weekend returns for its second instalment, taking place across Colston Hall, St George’s Bristol and The Cube Cinema [Thursday 12 – Sunday 15 May].

Established in 2014, Bristol New Music is a consortium of five major organisations in the city – Colston Hall, Arnolfini, Spike Island, St George’s Bristol and the University of Bristol – dedicated to giving new ideas in contemporary music fertile ground on which to develop and connect with audiences.

This year’s weekend, curated by a partnership of Colston Hall, St George’s Bristol and the University of Bristol, offers platforms to both established and emerging artists, all fearlessly exploring new realms in sound.

As part of Bristol New Music, University of Bristol students will perform in the CMV Concert Showcase at St George’s Bristol on Sunday 15 May (1.15pm).  This concert showcases the first two of this year’s three concerts in the University of Bristol’s Contemporary Music Venture (CMV) series, run by PhD students in the Department of Music.

The concert will feature specially commissioned pieces alongside established repertoire for baroque consort as well as piano trio.  The Piano Trio features students Kathryn Berry (violin), David Bevan (horn) and Justin Turnbull (piano); and the Baroque Consort: Ben Carr (recorders), Sam Burrow (recorders), Alice Trocellier (viola da gamba and bass viol) and Jacob Garside (baroque cello and bass viol).
