The cover feature introduces the SPHERE project, a pioneering mix of technology and medicine that could transform the lives of those with long-term health conditions. Pushing at very different frontiers, PhD student Ashley Dale describes his experiences at the Mars Desert Research Station; and we go underground with Dr Juliet Biggs, to examine the prospects for geothermal energy production in Ethiopia.
Other features include a blogger’s love letter to Bristol, a look back at the arrival of German refugee physicists in the 1930s, and an alumnus’ reflections on his journey from sound engineering on University stage productions to winning a BAFTA for his work on BBC Sport’s coverage of London 2012.
