The School of Experimental Psychology and the Bristol Neuroscience Group were jointly named ‘STEM University Department of the Year’ for their outreach work in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset region. The group have participated in projects including Smarter UK; the Brain Box Challenge, a schools outreach project run by Dr Dave Turk; and the annual Bristol Neuroscience Festival, which this year will be held on 11-12 October. A PhD student in the School of Experimental Psychology, Jenna Todd-Jones, won her category of the online school STEM activity 'I'm a Scientist, Get me out of Here'.
Dr Jenny Griggs, who worked until recently in the School of Geographical Sciences, won Ambassador of the Year. Over five years as a STEM ambassador, she visited many primary and secondary schools, running hands-on practical lessons based on her research into climate change and glaciers, and giving talks about climate change science and careers. She is now a PGCE student in the Graduate School of Education, training to become a physics teacher.
