This year’s ceremony was held jointly with the University Hospital Bristol Foundation NHS Trust and was co-hosted by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Judith Squires and James Rimmer, Chief Operating Officer at the Trust. Teams were presented with awards made from either recycled car windscreens or reclaimed welsh roofing slates.
The overall prize went to the Engineering Faculty Office; other awards went to three teams for achieving Gold, nine teams for Silver, five for the Bronze Plus award, nine for Bronze and three teams for ‘Working Towards’ Green Impact.
Special Awards, for the additional actions that teams took, included ‘innovation’ and ‘best community engagement’. These teams received an additional prize of a food hamper from the student-run BUST Food Co-op. Awards were given for actions such as holding Fair Trade events, producing scrap paper pads and running outreach projects in schools.
Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability, said ‘Green Impact grows from strength to strength each year and this year is no different. We had a strong showing this year from library and halls catering departments which I hope to build on next year. I also want to build on the work students are doing on sustainability and link that to Green Impact. Well done to everybody who got involved’.
The Green Impact Awards are now going into their sixth year at the University. Departments and students can get involved by visiting www.bristol.ac.uk/environment/green_impact/ or emailing green-impact-awards@bristol.ac.uk.
