Award for Bristol apprentice

2 December 2013

Joe Travers, a Modern Apprentice in Research and Enterprise Development (RED), has won an award for outstanding workplace progress and achievement at the City of Bristol College Apprenticeship of the Year awards.

Joe, who has been working in RED since August 2012, won accolades for Outstanding Progress, Outstanding Student Contribution and Outstanding Performance. In his first year at the University, he gained an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Apprenticeship in Business and Administration within Business Skills, and is now studying towards Level 3. He received his certificate from City of Bristol College Principal Lynn Merilion at an award ceremony at the City Hall earlier this month.

RED Director David Langley said: ‘Joe fully deserves recognition for his hard work, commitment and achievements. He is a perfect example for why the Modern Apprentice scheme is so valuable; it has helped him develop skills, experience and confidence in the workplace, while studying for a qualification. We spotted his potential at interview and he has not disappointed us.’

The University works in partnership with City of Bristol College to provide apprenticeships in six areas. In 2008 it won the Employer of the Year 2008 Award from City of Bristol College for its commitment to the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme, provided by Personnel Services and Staff Development.
