Hosted in London by Professor David Clarke, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Bristol, the event will be led by Professor Evans OBE, Chair of UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture, a member of the Foreign Secretary's Advisory Group on Human Rights and Deputy Director of the Human Rights Implementation Centre in the University of Bristol Law School.
Professor Evans, who is Professor of Public International Law at the University, will be joined by several Bristol alumni. These include: Louise de Sousa (BA 1990) Head of Human Rights & Democracy Department, Foreign & Commonwealth Office; David Gottlieb (LLB 1986) Barrister, Thomas Moore Chambers; Professor Steven Greer, Professor of Human Rights, University of Bristol; Phillippa Kaufmann QC (LLB 1988), Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers; Dr Purna Sen (PhD 1998), Director of the Programme for African Leadership at LSE and former Head of Human Rights for the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Professor Evans said: “This promises to be an exciting evening, drawing on the extensive experience, interest and commitment of many Bristol alumni to human rights concerns.”
The event begins at 6.30 pm and will be held at Allen & Overy LLP, One Bishops Square, London, E1 6AD. A drinks and canapés reception will follow.
