Academic awarded prestigious Fellowship

Dr Wendel Sebastian, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, has been awarded a Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering.
The Fellowship, awarded to Dr Wendel Sebastian, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, will run from 2011 to 2012.

During the Fellowship Dr Sebastian will develop an intelligent and time-efficient computational strategy to predict the complex responses of these buildings and bridges to both short-term and long-term loads.

This will involve collaboration with the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS) research group in the University’s Aerospace Engineering department and also with an internationally leading research group in Switzerland focused on civil engineering applications of advanced composites.

Only five Royal Academy of Engineering/Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowships were awarded nationally this year.  The other four awards are for research in the fields of nuclear engineering, bioengineering, statistics, and the material Graphene, which was the focus of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics.
