Mr Lei Wang, a second-year PhD student in the School of Economics, Finance and Management at the University, was named as President of CSSA-Bristol and will chair its committee for 2011-2012.
Established in the 1980s, CSSA-UK serves as a platform to bridge the gap between the east and western world by enhancing understanding and awareness among its members.
The organisation organises, sponsors and supports various social and cultural activities among Chinese students and scholars in the UK. There are over 80 subsidiary associations throughout the UK, who maintain close connections with the intellectual community in China and other CSSA members across the world.
The organisation is committed to developing unique activities locally, nationally and internationally, and seeks to promote education and culture exchange between China and the UK through mutual dialogue and collaborative initiatives on a wide variety of issues.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Wang said: “The Chinese Students and Scholars Association is the official organisation for overseas Chinese students and scholars registered in most colleges, universities, and institutions outside of China. I am honoured to have been named President of such a prestigious organisation, and look forward to continuing our work spreading Chinese culture.”
