Sarah Hegarty, a Chemistry undergraduate, represented England in the 2010 World Chess Olympiad – and was the only member of the England women’s team to be unbeaten.
The event is essentially the game’s Olympics and one of the most prestigious chess tournaments in the world. The 2010 tournament was held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia from 21 September to 3 October; the women’s team, having been seeded 39th, finished in 21st place.
