Jan Martin, who works in the University’s Finance Office and is also a digital artist and freelance illustrator, designed the mural. A group of BFN volunteers, including Bristol students, helped to whitewash the display wall and erect the mural, which can be viewed until 5 December.
EVAW Day itself will be marked by a candlelit vigil, co-ordinated by Bristol City Council, at Queen’s Square at 4.30 pm this evening. A procession will then make its way to the Council House, where two large candles will be lit to symbolise the two women a week who die in this country as a result of domestic violence.
Jan Martin can be heard talking about the project in an interview with BBC Radio Bristol.
It was also announced today that the University of Bristol is the recipient of a £1.8 million award for research on health-related domestic violence. A press release is available with more information.
