The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health is offering staff and students the opportunity to gain a Level 1 sports coaching or officiating qualification in a number of different sports.

Fifty places are being allocated on the new Community Coach Development Programme to athletes who are part of the University’s Athletic Union Focus Sports Clubs, while another 30 are for University sports volunteers and members of staff.

The 80 individuals will be funded on Level 1 courses in the sport of their choice in return for donating 15 hours’ voluntary time to community sport programmes. There are 25 sports covered by the programme, including rowing, waterpolo, rugby, netball, badminton and lacrosse.

The programme is funded through sponsorship by Linklaters, with the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health securing match funding through Sportsmatch.

Participants gain their qualification by attending courses on the Joint Universities Initiative for Coach Education (JUICE).
