The role of a university in its region

The role of a university in its region will be explored by Professor John Goddard, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Newcastle University at a public lecture at Leigh Court, Abbots Leigh, on Wednesday, December 5.

The lecture, which forms part of Bristol University's Celebration 2001 programme, will explore the political, economic and educational factors that lead to universities in the developed world becoming more engaged with their immediate regions.

Professor Goddard will also discuss the contribution of universities to regional industrial innovation, skills and cultural development through their research and other activities.

The lecture starts at 5.15 pm and admission is free. It has been organised in partnership with Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative.
